When Brandon Geracie began working as a CNA in high school, he had no idea how much those early experiences would shape his future. It was in those moments of caring for others—helping people through some of their most vulnerable times—that he discovered a calling. Nursing wasn’t just a career path; it was a purpose.
Today, as a Wisconsin Nurses Association member since 2022, Brandon reflects on the unique rewards of his profession. “What I love most about being a nurse is simple: caring for patients,” he says. “Helping them through some of their most challenging times and seeing the impact we can make is incredibly fulfilling.”
Brandon thrives on teamwork, finding some of his most memorable moments in the collective efforts of his colleagues. “It’s those full-circle experiences when a patient comes back to thank you or shares how you’ve made a difference in their recovery,” he shares. “Those are the moments that stick with you.”
Finding Community with WNA
Joining WNA has been a pivotal step in Brandon’s career. Beyond the resources and education the organization provides, it’s the sense of community that he values most. “Being part of WNA means having a network of like-minded professionals who truly understand what it’s like to be a nurse,” he explains. “It’s a support system that helps you grow and stay connected.”
Staying current in a fast-evolving field like nursing can be a challenge, but Brandon appreciates tools like the ANA daily digests and the professional network WNA provides. “It’s a great way to stay informed and inspired,” he adds.
Advice for New Nurses
For those entering the nursing field, Brandon offers a reassuring perspective. “Your first year is a learning experience—don’t feel like you have to know everything at once. Embrace the process, ask questions, and give yourself the grace to grow.”
Balancing Work and Life
As much as Brandon is passionate about nursing, he knows the importance of taking time for self-care. His days off are often dedicated to rest and spending time with family and friends. At home, his dog, Kali (short for Khaleesi), and his cat, Binx, provide plenty of entertainment.
When it comes to comfort food, Brandon is quick to name a favorite: “Culver’s, hands down!” For a taste of paradise, he reminisces about his best vacation—the Seychelles, a stunning island chain off the coast of Africa.
Making a Difference
Brandon’s hopes for his career are rooted in a deep commitment to his community. “I want to make a lasting difference in the lives of my patients, helping them live healthier and happier lives,” he says.
For Brandon, being part of WNA isn’t just about advancing his career—it’s about building a network that amplifies the impact nurses can have. As he continues his journey, Brandon serves as a reminder of the resilience, passion, and humanity that nurses bring to their roles every day.
