The criteria used in the decision-making process focused on those candidates who actively supported and promoted WNA’s top two legislative priorities: loan forgiveness for nurses enrolled in a Wisconsin nursing school to become nurse educators; and the passage of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Modernization Act. Additionally, those candidates who are recognized as leaders within their party were also considered.
This election cycle has presented unique challenges, leading to a smaller number of endorsed candidates than in previous years. These decisions were made thoughtfully, in part due to the reduced level of financial support available for our PAC this year, which naturally limits the number of endorsements we are able to make. We are actively working to increase support and encourage donations to enable us to extend our reach in future elections.
Furthermore, we recognize that some endorsements may appear unexpected based on traditional party lines. However, we place great emphasis on the actions and commitments of individual legislators. In this case, despite party affiliation, the legislators we have endorsed have demonstrated concrete support by sponsoring and pushing forward legislation that directly aligns with WNA’s priorities, such as the APRN Modernization Act. WINPAC is committed to supporting those who champion the causes that benefit Wisconsin nurses and the communities they serve, regardless of political party.
We encourage our members to look beyond party labels and focus on the legislative efforts that these individuals have made to improve nursing education, practice, and healthcare for all Wisconsinites.
